WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT
TYPES OF ACNE?
Before looking at the different types of acne we should first look at the physiopathology. The first sign of acne is generally oily skin with hyper sebaceous secretions, giving the appearance of slightly shiny skin and dilated pores. Then there is retention of the sebum with the appearance of comedos (blackheads) or small white cysts beneath the skin that are visible when the skin is stretched slightly. A bacterium called p. acnes is also causes inflammation of comedone lesions. Superficial lesions such as papules pustules or red pimples appear. Other deeper, more painful pimples called nodules indicate more severe acne. But all of these lesions are usually present at the same time forming a polymorphic acne. Acne treatments include conventional treatments such as antibiotic creams,Êretinoid creams and a number of drugs. Recent research data has shown some quite promising new treatments; light energies such asÊred and blue LEDs, some types of laser are, in my opinion, options that may prove excellent future treatments for acne. But the most important thing is to remember to use suitable cleansing and cosmetic products for these skin types.
