NAPPY
RASH

Nappy rash (aka diaper dermatitis) is a common illness in babies that appears in the 3rd week of life. It affects 50% of babies* and is characterised by redness over the nappy area and tight, papery skin. Unsurprisingly, nappy rash causes a great deal of discomfort to babies, especially at changing time.

How can I get rid of sunburn?

Once you have developed sunburn, the damage has already been done and all you can do is let it heal. Religiously protect the burn from the sun to prevent it from getting any worse, as well as applying a soothing aftersun gel with antioxidants and make sure you stay hydrated. If your skin has blisters, use a skin healing cream from the pharmacy until the burn has fully healed.

To treat nappy rash, bathe your baby in lukewarm water using a very mild, soap-free formula such as CICAPLAST Lavant B5 or LIPIKAR Syndet AP+. In addition to these measures, ensure nappies are changed regularly and that they are not too tight.

What can I do about sensitive skin when I’m sick?

When you have a cold or the flu, your facial skin can become more sensitive due to repeated nose blowing. To soothe sore skin, mist the area with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water and apply  CICAPLAST Baume B5 on red and raw areas. You can leave it on as a mask overnight to help the skin recover.  To reinforce your skin barrier use Toleriane Ultra on a daily basis.

How can I repair sun damaged skin?

The first step to help repair sun damaged skin is to prevent further damage with daily facial sunscreen with retinol molecule, which is known to speed up cell turnover at the skin’s surface for brighter skin, while replenishing collagen and elastin in-depth to repair wrinkles. REDERMIC R UV SPF 30 combines sun filters with retinol suitable for sensitive skin.

HOW IS BABY SKIN
DIFFERENT?

Baby skin is naturally sensitive and vulnerable, with its own unique set of features. It has a slightly more acidic pH than adult skin and is more sensitive to both infections and irritation. Its dermis is 3 times thinner, making it more prone to heat and water loss. For all of these reasons, baby skin needs specific care with adapted products safe from the 1st days of life.

HOW TO GET RID OF
NAPPY RASH?

The good news is that you can find some help in the pharmacy. With the right advice, routine and products, you can quickly get nappy rash under control:

  • When cleansing baby’s bottom, use a Syndet wash rather than baby wipes and rinse well with water before thoroughly dabbing dry.
  • Follow with a thermal water mist and a protective but breathable, intensely soothing cream (you’ll find plenty of product recommendations in the article in this section).
  • Change nappies at least every 3 hours and ensure they are not too tight.

In the article below, you will find full details on how to heal nappy rash, as well as dealing with baby eczema and milder forms of skin irritation in babies. With all this expert advice, happier days and more restful nights should be right round the corner!

How to avoid
nappy rash

Find out our dermatologist's tips to treat your baby's nappy rash.
My baby Leonor, like most babies, has a problem with nappy rash. And it was actually her father Amaury, who noticed that each time he changed the nappy, it was clearly irritated and red. So I'm wondering what must we do to avoid nappy rash.
Ideally you's want to prevent nappy rash in the first place. That requires applying a barrier cream to the whole of the nappy area every time the nappy is changed. This will protect the skin from the wet nappy. It's also advisable to use these super absorbent nappies, which need to be changed frequently. And if the nappy rash is a significant problem, then you may even want to consider changing it at night, especially if the baby is waking.
If Leonore has a nappy rash, then the treatment is a combination of a week steroid and anti-fungal cream that your doctor would prescribe.
